My Stress Relief...Sewing

Well I decided to be creative and try to make a halloween costume for Ryan. Both Dax and I liked the idea of him being a little monkey. So I looked at some patterns but they looked pretty complicated and they weren't really what I had pictured I guess. So this is the pattern that came out of my head. Notice how the costume has no Ryan in it. Last time I tried it on him he just kept screaming...he apparently doesn't like things on his head. Maybe we can distract him by having him chase the tail or something. Hopefully he'll get used to it, not like matters too much anyways. After making the costume I was thinking about it and realized that we aren't really going to be doing anything for halloween since Dax has to work (hopefully he gets off early) and since it's probably not the best thing to load a one year old up with candy..though he would probably love it. I have been tempted to take him trick-or-treating (not really), but those were for selfish reasons...i do love candy!
I was talking to my sister in law and she said she wanted her daughter to be Boo from Monsters Inc. when she is dressed up like a monster. I thought it would be fun to try to make it. I think I have decided that sewing takes my frustrations out. It is kind of a relaxing thing for me. I know it doesn't look exact but I think it looks pretty good. Maybe that's just because I made it! Also again notice no child in the costume. I did try it on Ryan and he didn't mind it but he started eating one of the eyeballs so he is grounded from playing with it :)

They are so cute Steph. I wish I had the patience to do that. I would have given it up along time ago. LOL

You did awesome on both! That is a real talent to look at something and make it. Wish I could? If is isn't made out of cake, I can't do it!

When Josh was old enough for his first Halloween costume, I decided to sew it, I couldn't find a pattern, I decided he would be a cute clown, I found some material and started to sew and when I went to try it on him it was way TOO small! LOL, So I made him a clown doll for Christmas, great memories, enjoy every minute!

You are amazing! Those look really great! Especially with no pattern. I'm impressed. If you want to come and go trick or treating with us, you can - Ainsley's going. I'm hoping she gets a lot of good stuff to share! We won't go out for very long probably - let me know! I'd love to see you. What are you doing for Ryan's birthday?

Uhh, hellooo? You are AMAZING! Please take pictures of him as a cute little monkey. I LOVE that idea for little Maddy, she is going to look EXACTLY like Boo.

I love the monkey costume Steph. We need to have a sewing day where you teach me what you know. You are very creative to come up with your own design. I love your blog. It is fun to see what you are up to. I miss ya.

Whoa. That's all I have to say. My mom desperately tried to teach me to sew, but I was never very good at it. I'm giving you a round of applause right now! By the way, Simon hates having his costume on his head too. My plan is to put on the headpiece (he's going to be Yoda) for a few minutes every day and leave it on just a bit longer until he gets used to it. If he doesn't leave it on for pictures I'll be really annoyed!
