I Need Advice

Ok moms out there, I need some advice before Ryan drives me crazy. He has started gagging himself to the point that he throws up. It is only when we are in the car. I try to stop him but I can't reach him and when I give him toys to distract him he usually throws them and starts doing it again. It makes me sick to sit and listen to him gag himself! Not to mention that his clothes smell like barf! Has any one else had this problem? What did you do? Thanks for any advice. Maybe I will post something a little more light hearted soon :)

Oh I am so sorry Steph! I have a friend that her little boy would do it when he got in trouble. The only thing that worked for her was to not give him ANY attention. When he would start gagging himself, she would not look at him or say anything to him and then she wouldn't say a word to him as she changed his clothes. It took a couple of more times but he stopped.
So maybe if he is doing it in the car, just don't look back or say anything and then when you get to where you are going, do what my friend did and not say a word about it as you change him or clean him up.
I hope this helps, I bet it is not any fun! The joys of motherhood! :)

Hmm.. Clay doesn't do this, but he does other annoying things in the car and I've found that giving him a sippy cup with his juice in it helps distract him. Or putting on his favorite music (Single Ladies by Beyonce) and singing and dancing with him helps.
If that doesn't work, maybe he needs a time-out when you get to where you are going. Clay HATES time-out. I leave him in a time-out for about 2 minutes.
Good luck!

Hey Steph isn't motherhood fun!! I agree with Adri, I think he just needs your attention and he has certainly found a way that works, he is probably using it as a control measure, just one of many more to come! So I vote for the ignore method with the distraction method thrown in for good measure, and just keep some extra clean clothes on hand for good measure! Good luck, I love you, this too shall pass

Steph,
This must run in the Larsen genes. Rhees and Ainslee both used to do this. What Adri said was right. I found that once I stopped giving them the attention for it, they both quit doing it. Hard to do, but after a couple of times, it worked for me. Hope this helps....at least you can blame Dax for it right? Love you!

Thank you for all the advice. I will let you know how it works. If it doesn't, I may just send him to Abudabe (I think that's how you spell it?)

The joys of children, huh? We haven't entered that whole new world yet...good luck with that :)
We are in the Ogden area, we actually moved to Layton after we got married and will probably be in this area for another year. We might be coming to Logan after that though, Nate has grad school next fall and in Utah his options are BYU and Utah State. We'll see. How much longer does Dax have in school?

Nicholas used to this when he was in the car too. Instead I started not reacting and he quickly stopped. Hope this helps
